SECOND LIFE, March 14 (Reuters) - Linden Lab Chief Executive Philip Rosedale said on Friday the company he founded has begun a search for a new CEO with more operational and management expertise.
Unlike the public paroxysms that followed Corey leaving, I expect this revelation to not be such a shocker. I don't think there's any reason to be concerned. For one thing, a founder-CEO is usually NOT the same sort to be an operations-over-the-long-haul-CEO, a weakness even Phillip admits to. Linden Labs is a very quirky company, possessing a very quirky corporate culture, dominating a very quirky market. The honeymoon can't last forever. Perhaps it's time for someone to step in with a firm grounding of running real companies in the real world for real money. Secondly, and most important, Rosedale isn't leaving in a huff. He's still around, working on product improvements and functioning as a board member. Even if the company was sold, I suspect the resulting amalgam will bear the stamp of Philip's vision.
