Now that was a rez day!

Coming back in world after a few RL errands, YHM headed over to the Oceanside, in Artificial Isle. A rez day party was in the offing!

The Duchess Bellambi, with a little help from the prop master, Exrex Somme, had decked out the Oceanside with embarrassing noob pictures, whiskey, absinthe, and a suspicious mud pit. The party filled up quickly, with a steady parade of visitors arriving.

It was a wondeful crowd of people I have met here and there over the last two years-- which, in Second Life terms, feels like ten years.

Hobos, Caledonians, Steelheaders, NPIRLers, Babbagites, Antiquarians, Winterfallen-- all were here in abundance. I was hugely pleased and quite touched.

I was asked to make a speech, to demonstrate such wisdom of human nature in Second Life as I had gleaned these last two years. The best I could come up with, on short notice, was a much bastardized version of an old Taoist Parable, which runs like this (in the original-- mine rambled a bit):

There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit.

"Such bad luck," they said sympathetically.

"We'll see," the farmer replied.

The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses.

"How wonderful," the neighbors exclaimed.

"We'll see," replied the old man.

The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune.

"We'll see," answered the farmer.

The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son's leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out.

"We'll see" said the farmer.

DJ Therese Slade was present, playing a mix that she must have had some sort of Vulcan mind-meld with YHN in advance to create, since it was fabulous. "T" is one of my favorite DJs for a reason-- I was happy she could take a break from setting up the Novern Monkey to spin for us.

We were shocked to see a surprise guest!

And then, well, you know how it is when someone starts talking trash at a party.

There was only one way to solve the dispute, in a mud pit:

Theresa's set wound down, and with much ballyhoo and farewell, we said farewell to her. BUT WAS THE PARTY OVER? OH, NO!

We retired to the Polymath Eyrie to put the Pony Keg Playroom on the Hi-Fi:

The After Hours Party lasted a good long while!

At 3 AM (YHN's time) he had to beg exhaustion and exhort the guests to lock up when they leave.

YHN would like to thank that superb party planning duo of Exrex Somme and Eva Bellambi, Zatzai Asturias for hosting us, and Therese for taking time off from running her club to come spin for us.

YHN is a man humble in real wealth, but a rich man when it comes to his friends. Thank you all for coming and for the well wishes.. I had a wonderful time and greatly appreciated it.

That sounds like one fine time for all! Sorry to have missed it. A happy belated Rez Day to you, sir!

The Taoist Parable sounds like good advice for the stock market.
