Ironclads: American Civil War

New from Totem Games (a Russian company!) is "Ironclads: The American Civil War". Totem has just released a demo, which I have downloaded. The Totem website has some video footage and extra screenshots from the base game, plus a teaser for what appears to be a pre-dreadnought era game (Ironclads: High Seas). A visit to the site is well worth the effort.

I am generally speaking not much of a fan of standalone PC wargames these days, but this might have potential, not the least because it looks surprisingly similar to in world SL battles with ICS Ironclads. Probably with a great deal less lag and sim border crossing issues.

Who knows, if the price is right, I may try it out.

At the very least, I like their choices in ships. There are far too few wooden sidewheeler gun boats represented in games on this subject, and frankly, they were the predominant combatant in any conflict near a harbor or out on the ocean-- ironclads were historically far rarer than one might think.

It really DOES look like one of your evening get togethers in SL. Which says much for all the work you lot have put into making those happen: your events compare favourably to those created by professional game companies (and have added benefit of interactivity).

But yes...lag :/

Hi,

I noticed you are (possibly unintentionally) stealing my bandwidth by linking directly to one of my images (the second one in this blog entry). I have no problem if you copy the image and host it somewhere, but please do not link directly to the image on my site. Every time someone views it on your site, it uses up my bandwidth. That's not considered a nice thing to do (in case you didn't know). Thank you.
