Batten Down the Hatches! We're serving calamari!

Walk, don't run, to visit Therese Ferelle's struggling ship build confronted by a Kraken of the deep. The build is very reminiscent of the final scene of the third Pirates of the Carribean movie. Or it might be, my only memory of that movie is sleeping through it.

Miss Frequency Picnic and her REZ DAY of DOOM! Tonight!

Miss Picnic

One of YHN's oldest and dearest friends in Second Life, Miss Frequency Picnic, will endure her THIRD REZ DAY in Second Life today. Miss Eva Bellambi and YHN will host a raucous ROLLER DERBY OF DOOM REZDAY PARTY tonight, featuring Lemurs, Music, Roller Skates, Land Mines, Melee Weapons, Rocket Darts, Mexican wrestlers, and the Undead!

There's a strange mixture of stuff in play tonight, but YHN suspects it will be hilarious despite it all.

• Time: 730 PM SLT
• Place: The Artificial Isle Amphitheater. SLURL to a spot just in front of the "Skate Equipment" area. There is a teleport up to the Roller Derby track. Be ready to skate!
  
• Dress: Either as a Lemur, Mexican Wrestler (aka Luchador) or any generic (non-trademarked) superhero in tights, or just something wacky.
• Equipment: The SLURL above will take you to a place for FREE SKATES and SKATING ANMIATIONS (From Abraminations, at his shop, in the freebie section), the MMCS Health Hud (for the Roller Derby of Doom-- LM takes you to Port Merrimac's MMCS dispenser, it's only 10L), and there is also a LM for Mexican Wrestler outfits in world.
• Other: Bring your Roller Derby NAME, and whether or not you are a "Hero" or a "Heel"..

Iron Melee: Ship AND Shore Mayhem in Second Life

Iron Melee is a regular event held at Port Merrimac, Roatan, every Thursday night at 7:30 PM SLT or thereabouts.

Events usually center around a nautical battle of some sort, using steampunk or historical 19th century naval technology. Ironclad battles are a perennial favorite; particularly using the inworld ICS (Ironclad Combat System).

Not all adventures transpire on the water, however. Often, the Iron Melee group will conduct an "Infantry Landing" game, dropping an infantry section off to reach an objective on shore (usually a gun emplacement firing on ships out on the water). For this they use the MMCS combat system, but may soon graduate to the UCS combat system (the work of Miss Kandace Commons) which alleges to be compatible with ICS.



On a recent ILB (Infantry Landing Battle), the Red (Confederate) team defended against the Blue (Union) team attacking their gun emplacements in an improvised recreation of the "Island Number Ten" battle in the American Civil War.



As the body of one of the Union attackers mutely attests, these events can be tricky.



Naval battles, either as a straight up Ironclad slugging match or as a more whimsical version of Capture the Flag, continue to be the most popular activity at Port Merrimac.

A lovely post in Miss Orr's blog tipped YHN on to one of the most sublimely ironic (and unintentionally hilarious) images in Second Life:

Artifacts from the Past

YHN was clearing off artifacts from an older ordination device that he once used as his primary conveyance into this world. One folder of ancient pictures caught his eye

Many people have heard of or seen the old classic CALEDON SLEEPS machinima by Oolon Sputnick. if you haven't seen it, you ought. It tells the story of a hapless assassin from an unnamed vaguely Germanic country trying to shiv Guvnah Shang in the middle of the night. The Guvnah is saved by the timely intervention of tiny, valiant "Gunbunnies" from Tanglewood. I had forgotten that we had worked on the storyboard together and I had some very crude pictures (done in some old storyboard program) that were the rough cut of what became Caledon Sleeps. It seemed .. rude to just dump them in the machine's recycling bin without so much as a word, so here they are. It's amusing to run the them all in a sequence and compare them to what finally made the silver screen. A nice reminder of a very different time in Caledon.

Limericks for Boobies

YHN did his humble best in the Limerick Contest for Boobies at the Isle of Skye last night, coming in a distant third behind Mr. Munster (left) and Mr. Trenton (right). Ah well, the important thing is that our combined efforts raised a significant chunk of boodle for Breast Cancer Research! I'm sure the exact details will be forthcoming on the Realm of the Red Rose today. From last night's excited reports, total inworld efforts raised 2010 USD for Breast Cancer research! (Dollars, not Lindens). Not bad work for a pack of virtual avatars, at the end of the day!

Shhhh.. it's a secret. We are working on something profoundly silly at the Wrath Fleet Secret HQ sandbox.

The concept: ROLLER DERBY OF DOOM



Description: A long oval track, filled with dart throwers, landmines that explode and push, flame throwers that crisp people.



Racers Will wear a MMCS or UCS (if it is ready in time) health hud and carry a MMCS or UCS melee weapon (a saber). They will wear the ABRAMINATIONS roller skates and skating hud. The idea is to race around the track ten times. You will earn one point per lap, lose 1 point for every time you die from the actions of an opponent or one of the many booby traps on the course. Flamboyant Mexican wrestler costumes are a must.

Anticipated Arrival: when it's ready. If we can grab a Burning Life spot to deploy this, we will.
